I wanted to see what kind of results I could get in a range of abstract images with a very limited palette of just two paints, black and white.

My way of working relied heavily on happenstance, mostly depending on chance to produce something that had some kind of aesthetic punch. A non-skilled way of working except, of course, in the final selection and presentation, and of course with abstract art, that’s everything.

I am always thrilled by the surprises that occur when one hands over the execution of a piece completely to fate. The marks, runs and dilutions that one would never think to make in a usual way of working, when it’s all too easy for clichés and repetitions to enter the frame.

I also have a love of diptych and triptych formats. The juxtapositions create an intriguing and inexplicable other level.
